Mathematics, Science and Computer Studies Department
Welcome to the Mathematics, Science and Computer Studies Department
Head of Department: Mrs. Priscilla Patiram-Gyan
This department comprises of nine Teachers whose aim is to engage students in learning skills and attitudes which will help mould them into model citizens who will make a positive contribution to the building of our nation. We meet every week to discuss matters pertaining to the curriculum and to share information which can help us in performing our responsibilities to the best of our ability. We are always trying to meet our students’ needs by our research, sharing our ideas and discussions about teaching in and out of the classroom. We always try to maintain a positive student teacher relationship which is a vital factor to reach our students.
While teaching strategies vary from lesson to lesson, we encourage hands-on activities to create a link with theories learnt. We engage in activities which provide a varied learning experience for students such as: model building, crosswords, puzzles, classroom presentations, field trips and participation in competitions such as WASA, Bridge Building and the Mathematics Olympiad. The department also participated in an Inter-House Spelling Bee Competition which included material from all content areas including Science, Mathematics and Computer Science. Participants of the Institution of Structural Engineers Bridge Building/ Design and Build Competition under the guidance of Ms. Shireen Khan-Alexander achieved second place in 2013 and were awarded the Best Teamwork Prize and in 2014 students were recognised for having the design with the “Best Aesthetics”. In 2020 and 2023 students placed 3rd overall.
As we continue to play a role in our students’ development our reflections as teachers assist us in our long term goal to fulfil the words of our vision and motto.
