Modern Languages Department

Welcome

Acting Head of Department: Mrs. Juliana Ramroop-Ramnath

This department consists of teachers of English and Spanish

Wherever you dream of going, the Modern Languages Department can take you there. We pride ourselves in our ability to transform our students’ worlds, not just through facilitating their learning of Standard English and Spanish, but also in the integration of the history and culture of the peoples who speak these languages on a daily basis. In addition, we enrich our students’ lives through the instruction of Literature as we accompany them on lived experiences – fictional and non-fictional – while developing in them comprehension and analytic skills that will carry them through a lifetime.

Our role as language teachers helps us as individuals to appreciate our students and what they bring to our classrooms. Most of our students speak Trinidadian Creole at home and with their friends. It is through this mode of communication that we are able to understand their socio-cultural backgrounds and share in light-hearted moments, as we continuously strive towards catering to each girl’s individual needs and teaching her a second, or in most cases, a third language!

So, take a look at what this versatile department has to offer as we work closely with other departments to produce young women furnished with intelligence, confidence and the ability to make a difference through words! After all, “the limits of my language are the limits of my world” (Ludwig Wittgenstein, Philosopher).
